TERMS and CONDITIONS OF THE E-BIKE/PEDELEC CONSTRUCTION COMPETITION

LIMITS AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF THE E-BIKEs/PEDELECs

The only limit is that every team can spend funds up to € 500, 00 (including one-most expensive battery and charger). There is no restriction regarding battery capacity, engine power and top speed. The teams have to have one available battery for each competition category (in total 3 batteries). Due to time and spatial dynamics, battery charging will not be possible. The weight of the driver/rider has to be minimal 50 kg.

PROJECT FINANCING

Project funding is exclusively your own funding. Of course, you can get sponsorship and donations for this purpose. Additional batteries are also financed from own resources, but their value is not included in the total cost of materials for making e-bike/Pedelec < € 500,00.

THE CRITERIA FOR GRADING EACH OF THE COMPETITION CATEGORIES

The jury will evaluate competitive models e-bike/Pedelec within five (5), following categories. The evaluation will be relative. The winning team in each category is awarded 100 points, while the rest is given the relative rate of the winning team’s achievement. Winner will be the team that collects the most total points. The technical documentation will be evaluated at the working lunch. At the lunch, the teams will meet the jury, which will consist of representatives of each faculty and members of the racing teams. Members of each team will present their technical documentation and its correlation to the financial documentation. The presentation must be held in the English language.

The jury will consist of representatives of each faculty:

  • University of Maribor Faculty of electrical engineering and computer science; Dr. Gorazd ŠTUMBERGER, Institute of Power Engineering Powerlab
  • University of Ljubljana Faculty of electrical engineering; Dr. Damijan MILJAVEC, Department of Mechatronics Laboratory of Electrical Machines
  • Fachhochschule Kärnten Gemeinnützige Privatstiftung; FH-Prof. DI Winfried EGGER, Power & Drives im Studienbereich Systems Engineering

The competition categories are:

  1. AMOUNT OF FUNDS SPENT (financial documentation)
  2. In this category we will evaluate the amount of production costs for Pedelec / E-bike which may not exceed € 500.00. (Including one most expensive battery and charger). Financial documentation must include a VALUE LIST of all components and other supplies. Original invoices and offers of components which show the value of the individual components are annexed to the aforementioned Value list. In case that original invoices cannot be submitted, the components’ real market value will be taken into account, which should be reflected from offers. In the case that the purchase includes any discounts, then the value without a discount will be taken into account. The evaluation committee will review the financial documentation (invoice and price information) and assess consistency between the presented costs and the actual costs.

Example of evaluation; minimum cost of winning teams are € 300,00 . The team that has spent € 490,00 will received (300/490) * 100 = 61.22 points.

  3. TEHNICAL DOCUMENTATION

The technical documentation shall provide information and data which will give a detailed overview of the whole e-bike/Pedelec manufacturing process.

    • INTRODUCTION CONCEPTUAL DESIGN; a description of the constituent of components, and justify their choice (quantitative BOM).
    • DESCRIPTION OF MODIFICATION OF e-bike/Pedelec; a description of the manufacturing process, a schematic diagram (wiring scheme, dimensions, mounting diagram).
    • TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS;

Example of evaluation; Evaluation Committee will review if they described and presented all the items listed above and on the basis of the submitted review.

  4. COMPETITION CATEGORY OVERCOMING DISTANCE (Site A)

Competition will take place at the racecourse track Kamnica. The ground/surface was sandy and firm, each complete circle measures 800 meters. All teams start simultaneously and run on time. Winner is the team which covers the largest distance in 2 hours. There will be allowed ONLY ELECTRIC DRIVE, the driver at least 50 kg weight, drivers can change, rest is allowed, changes on the bike during race ARE NOT ALLOWED.

Example of evaluation; winning team needs two hours to overcome 50 km. The team that has overcome 40 kilometers receives (40/50) * 100 = 80 points.

  5. COMPETITION CATEGORY OVERCOMING SLOPE (Site B)

Competition will take place at a local road with asphalt surface, slope gradients of 18 %. Teams compete against each other: winner is the team which beat a greater distance up the slope. In the case of equal distances, the winner is the team that overcomes the distance in least of the time. Each team can ride twice, but with different competitors. There will be allowed only electric-powered drive, and the rider has to have a weight at least 50 kg.

Example of evaluation; winning team beat the entire 200 m slope. The team that has won only the first 150 m of gradients will receive (150/200) * 100 = 75 points. In the event that all teams overcome the 200 m slope, then the time in which the teams beat the whole slope will be graded.

  6. COMPETITION CATEGORY DRIVING SKILLS (Site D)

Competition will take place in the center of Maribor. The ground/surface is partially asphalt and partially paved. Teams compete against each other: winner is the team, which is the fastest and with least penalty points beat the skill track. Penalties are graded with extra time. Each team can ride twice, but with different competitors. Allowed any drive, driver weight at least 50 kg.

Example of evaluation winning team in 120 seconds overcomes all obstacles on the skill track. The team which has overcome all obstacles on the skill track within 150 seconds will receive (120/150) * 100 = 80 points.

  • NON-COMPETITION CATEGORY - SPEED RACE
Teams will be divided into two groups with one team from each faculty:

    GROUP AGROUP B
    KLAGENFURT 1KLAGENFURT 2
    LJUBLJANA 1LJUBLJANA 2
    MARIBOR 1MARIBOR 2

In group each team races against other two teams, winners of each group race for final winner.

Draw of starting numbers will be held at Hipodrom Kamnica before the first categorie. Teams from each faculty will draw if they are 1ST or 2ND team of the faculty. Then the 1ST teams of each faculty will draw starting order of faculties: 1ST, 2ND or 3RD. Second teams of each faulty will automatically get starting number increased for 3. Example: FERI Maribor 1 draws number 2, FERI Maribor 2 automatically gets number 5.
